Keratin Smoothing vs Chemical Straightening: What Is Best

Do you have curly or wavy hair? If so, you may have considered getting it straightened in the past.

We all want what we don’t have right?

I know plenty of ladies with straight hair who obsess over curly, waving hair.

But my disclaimer here is that we are all beautiful just the way we are.

Ok, my lovely curly haired ladies, there are a few different options available.

The most popular of the two is a Keratin Smoothing Treatment and then there is the permanent alternative: Chemical Straightening.

So, what’s the difference between these two treatments?

Keep reading to find out!

Keratin Smoothing is a temporary hair straightening treatment that smooths the hair shaft and eliminates frizz.

The keratin used in this treatment coats the hair, filling in any gaps or inconsistencies in the cuticle.

This leaves you with shiny, sleek locks that can last around three months.

It causes very minimal damage to the hair, and as the name suggests is doesn’t actually straighten the hair, it smooths the hair.

The hair structure isn’t changed during the process, however it does relax the hair, meaning you will notice a drop in curls. If you have wavy hair, you will notice your hair a lot more straight.

Ok, moving onto Chemical Straightening.

As the name suggests, it makes your hair 100% straight using chemicals.

It goes onto your hair and actually changes the structure of your hair (unlike Keratin Smoothing).

As it is a permanent option and is changing the hair structure, it makes sense that this option does cause damage to the hair.

However, the trade off is 100% straight hair, which for many is worth it.

So there you have it!

Those are the main differences between Keratin Smoothing and Permanent Straightening Treatments.

If you want more manageable, less frizzy hair then a Keratin Smoothing Treatment is definitely the way to go.

And because, we love this treatment so much and it has been so popular in salon, we have created a membership specifically for Keratin Smoothing Treatments.

But if you really want to say goodbye to your curly hair and want to wake up with silky straight hair each day then Chemical Straightening may be the best option for you.
